How far Macwesters have sailed?

Wrong, at least with the 27 bilge keeler. These have moulded stub keels to which are bolted cast iron ballast keels. These cast iron ballast keels are about 2 feet deep.
I have a 27 and and every other 27 that I have come across is the same. In my area all the harbours dry, so it is easy to see this.

Previous owner was moored next to me and he would tell me she sailed like " a bathtub with sails" make of that what you will.

but this particular one is not standard .. she has 6 inch channell irons instead of bilge keels and a steel plate for a keel, so three things dragging underwater to slow her down.

I quite fancied a 27 and was under the impression they sailed reasonably well, is that not the case then?

My RYA PY book (1996 but I don't think they've got any faster) rates the Mac 27 at 1287 - same as the Hurley 22 and Ballerina - so not very fast for a 27ft

I had a 26; my first impression, which never really changed, was that of a sailing tugboat; Big, solid, slow and would survive just about anything.

Not to good to windward but that's what motors are for.

If you want a race boat, buy a race boat. If you're in a hurry, go by car.
