How far do you live from your boat?

The closest match to the average was Stugeron Steve of this parish who hasnt posted for a couple of years. Home in Nottingham, boat on the Solent. How that could be normal is beyond me !!

540 mile round trip - Halifax to Kip on the Clyde. Just gone to 4 day weeks so will go Thursday night to Monday every other week.
Drive is between 3 3/4 and 4 1/2 hours but can do by train 5 minute walk from office to 5 minute walk to boat for about the same for 2 of us as the cost of diesel. Could bring boat closer but the Clyde and beyond for longer trips is worth the journey.

summer time the boat is 4 hours away in falmouth. rest of the year its 40 mins away

Suppose it depends on the car you drive but my bike does 42 mpg riding sensibly and the car averages 47.2. bikes are not fuel efficient, partly because that isnt the bike market but also because of aero.

due to my crew expansion programme (having kids) both me and the mrs have a large people carrier each with the back row of seats removed. that way we have room for kids + thier stuff plus boat stuff. her citroen c8 is the best on fuel but it still only does about 34mpg. there are many occasions when I pop down on my own (to work on the boat) when something more economical would be better. I have a scooter I use for the 2 mile commute to work was thinking of replacing this with a transalp or similar. I know if I sell my espace I will instantly regret it because with the seats removed theres not much that wont fit in the back. motorbikes are also free over the sever bridge.

as an aside im greatful for this thread, sometimes it gets me down being so far from the boat/sea its nice to hear that im not by any means alone in my frustration!
 
A wee walk to the end of the road to see her bobbing around her mooring. In this current storm, that's as entertaining as giving birth! I confess to no experience in that department, so I'm only using imagination here to create an analogy.
 
One on its trailer on the drive about 30 feet away and one on a mooring about 1/2 mile away. I can easily detour on my way to/from work just to check out the boat (and have a brew and sit and watch the world go by)
