How far do you live from your boat?

139 miles exactly with the benefit of passing by Loch Lomond and some lovely scenery its not a bad drive........and then the caravans come out to play:mad: can still be there in 1h30mins on a good day.

That's a 93mph average. Ferrari? Aston Martin? Lamborghini?

1,557 nautical miles in a straight line, according to Google earth. Leros in the Dodecanese, going back next week, great. We have driven it a few times, takes three ferries and we do it in about 10 days, taking our time in the motorhome. It has got too expensive now, so flying via Athens this time.

The other boat is about 160 miles away but at the other end of Wales, so it takes us about 5 hours to get there.

A bit off topic but at the end of this year we will have had 3 years based in Croatia (we both work but try to get there 4-5 times a year) and want to move to Greece next. As the only marina we know is Kos, and didn't like the look of Cretan sailing despite the great marina at Ag Nik, we are looking for recommendations for next year.

Is Leros a good safe base you'd recommend? Waiting lists?

I seem to recall one of the yachting mags doing a survey about this maybe six years ago. If I remember correctly, the average respondent lived 98 miles from their boat (which, if memory also serves) averaged in the low 30-foot range. At the time I lived 50 yards from mine, now rather closer.

Leros is an excellent place to keep a boat, safe in all conditions and not too expensive. Plenty of cruising destinations relatively nearby and many anchorages around the Dodecanese. Consequently it has become very popular and we heard last year that it was full, although since then we know at least one person who has signed a contract with them.

Not the most convenient place to get to, in season you can fly charter to Kos from UK, then ferry onwards to Leros, or EasyJet to Athens and either ferry or fly Olympic to Leros.

Sitting room armchair to boat on mooring, about 50yards. Very handy.
Not so nice when you sit up in bed at 5 o'clock one morning and don't see it !
AMHIK

A little over 50 miles and a little over 1 hour each way.

Although I have been considering moving her to the West coast this year. I think the trip to use her (mainly weekends) would be bearably do-able (approx. 2 hours) but over winter maintenance might be more of a drag with the longer trip and shorter days.

About 60 miles of M25 - can be really close out of the rush hour and seem like the other side of the world on a Friday evening! We try to spend a lot of time living on the boat!
