Our Elan came with this euro 240 volt socket which we have obviously used with an adaptor to UK plugs. It no longer grips the adaptor well and needs fiddling to establish a connection.
How do I remove it? Anyone seen similar? Feeling the back there may be a clip but I cannot shift it by hand. The back is not easy to access, difficulty even getting the phone in for a photo as below
Next, any recommendations for a neat 13 amp socket replacement?

V1701, Thanks but the hole is round and I cannot push what look like clips by hand, was asking before I get destructive!

It might just lever out if you can squeeze metal clips in a little. If it breaks you have not lost anything as it is already junk.

As people have mentioned the front cover comes off. I do have a number of these sockets as spares - PM me if I can help.
 
I replaced my EU style socket with the Berker ones from Furneaux Riddall. You need three parts - the outlet plate, frame (which can be one with cover), and protection box. Various colour combinations are available.

Unfortunately - these European standard sockets are bloody awful ... You have an EU two + earth socket ...

The two round holes either side are the + / - ... the two metal bits either side are the earth.

What happens is inside the two pins connectors are a U of two bars .. that over time get wider and wider spaced - that then you end up wiggling the plug to get contact.
You need to disconnect all power ... ALL + - and earth. Then open the socket up and with a pair of pliers - close the metal strips creating the contacts for plug pins ..

Funny enough _ just had to do that in my 'Party Room' at home for the Xmas celebrations !!
 
Further ... many have a safety plate in to stop insertion of 'strange' items ... this plate is absolutely useless - it often stop completely use of the socket ...

First thing I do is remove it !! Because it is one of the reasons the U bars get mangled as people are forcing the plug in .....

In my home - I have added UK style sockets as well as the local EU ones ... as I am fed up with the EU rubbish ...

Similarly on the boat - EU and UK style sockets ....

Happy New Year to you both.

If you haven't got it off already, the designed method is as Wallacebob gives in post #7 above, but therer are, I believe, 2 small cut outs opposite each other I can see one if them in your photo of the user side of the socket. So 2 small screwdrivers and something underneath each screwdriver but near the socket ( you do have 4 hands, don't you?). You will have to lever a fair way (?1/2") as to get the spring clips over the hump, before that as soon as you release your levering, it will pop straight back in.

Please ensure shorepower is unplugged before you start the job.

For the replacement any 13 A socket which is not easily corroded in a marine environnment, and best fit a drywall type box, so there are not exposed 230 V. terminals in the space behind.

use a small flat screwdriver or similar (place a cardboard on the wood surrounding areas for protectection) going by your photo there is a small area at the side of the socket that is not flat to the surface if its the same on the other side - it may just pull out by inserting something either side and extracting out
 
Caravan suppliers usually have the CBE sockets: you can remove the existing front plate and put in 13 amp outlets using existing back box and wires. You can also choose dark grey or white socket fronts and cover plates. Changed all my euro ones to 13 amp years ago.
 
The usual way to remove EU sockets like this ...... cross head screwdriver into that centre hole - the screw in there either threads into the back plate ... or ... expands a threaded plug to grip the backplate. If its the exapnder type - often it feels like nothings happening and cover doesn't want to come off ... needs 'persuasion !!

I have never seen any socket like this have any tabs etc. at side holding cover on ...
