Re: Why do you park so far away from the sea

I'm beginning to think you are right. The raggies are simply frustrated by their lack of power. It can take them half an hour, at least, to go against the ebb tide in the Chichester and Portsmouth approach channels. I think their fist shaking when a proper boat comes through is simply a sign of frustration at their lack of power.

Im seeing things in a new light. Look, tcm, I can't afford to ditch Dawn Chorus, but if I cut down that silly mast, and add a second storey to the deck moulding, can I get close to the true MoBo lifestyle? What do I do with the limp-wristed 20hp Volvo? There's not much space down there, but if I ditch the fire extinguisher, I'm sure I can find space for a turbo. I really want to get that twin screw experience (Sorry Pauline, no offense) Ive got a 2hp Honda for the tender. Can I hang this off the transom, and really motor?

Re: Fashion tips please

OK, blazers out.

Whats this mention of money? I thought you guys boasted about how much it cost to get from A - B. Raggies talk about fighting the tide to get from Yarmouth to Hamble, I thought now I'm a drag-stinkie, I'd brag about burning £200 getting from Brighton to Port Solent

Re: for that powerboat effect.

Will nitous oxide give me the smoke effect I'm looking for, or do I still have to add Soltron? I still want to know what colour Pauline's are.

Re: Attempted stinkie

There is a large sailboat in our marina, must be about 60 feet ...with a massive 1200cc 3-seater PWC on chocks on the foredeck. A total mess, unfortunately.

Fraid you will have to chop in the bav for a proper fat-backed boat which Looks The Part From The Back rather than all that huddling in the cockpit or pratting about with navgear down below in the wrong place.

The nav gear is only down there to remind you that you've let go of the tiller and are carearing all over the place....oopps sorry thats called tacking..sorry

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Re: Fashion tips please

Are you mad? Why on earth would anyone do that trip? If they were in port solent they wd go to Cowes, or Langstone and quite a few just go to Gosport. If on the other hand they were in Brighton they would just go to the pub.

Re: who drives a ragboat?

Of course, it's often the least knowledge noodle on board: anyone who knows what they are doing is down below twiddling with the nav gear, sharpening pencils or doing the vhf or sleeping in leecloths which sounds quite rude.

While cutting off the big stick, also cut off keel. Then slap loads of grp onto bottom, your aiming to have it quite flat towards stern. Will plane a lot better that way.

Flat arse

Much to the disgust of the long keel brigade, a modern yacht has a flat bottom towards the back, so I think, given enough power from a turbo conversion, and a little help from the Honda 2hp, I should be able to get DC onto a plane without extensive plastic surgery. You are right about the lump if iron down below. Get rid of that, and I should be able to get more kit, and maybe a motor transplant without effecting the water line.

Re: Flat arse

Suggest you keep the saily bits but construct a funnel to direct airflow through pipe, which will then turn a turbine of sorts, giving considerable extra speed and green enjoyment. Sounds complicated, but I suspect B & Q will provide most of the materials. Suggest you look in bathroom extractor section. May be be able to harness additional 'boost' power through heads hook up contrapshun. Will miss out on vulgar cost-of-journey conversation at bar though. Not sure how colregs will cover this, if this troubles you. I'll put in a post onn the proper forum to find out.

Closet Mcgregors outed

Given that boats are specially made for people to nail things on to them, I'm surprised more have got am uprated power option. Probably a single 300hp would do fine for say 30 knots, but you' need a planning surface- big "trim tab" lowered hydraulcally from the rear. Has anyone doen this

Colregs?

Do you drive at 70 on the motorway? Do you stop the moment the green light turns to amber? 'course not! Same with Colregs. They are there to keep the RYA examiners happier. Its a bit like the highway code - swot up to pass the test, then consign to file 13, and use ones wit and experience. Anyway, If I can get some more power out of the V***o, I should be able to accellerate my way out of any trouble.

Power = safety. I've got it now.

Love handles

I've heard of love handles. Are trim tabs mini-versions of a love handle?

What other vocab do I need on my voyage of discovery of living on the other side?

Endurance

Oh, its not a money thing, but an endurance thing? Is there a natural range for a typical stinkie? About 30 mins, after which the eardrums and bashed kidneys scream "Enough, Enough"

Where\'s the ladies?

Ignoring the slanerous posting on Scutbut about the sexual preferences of motorsailers, I have always thought that one of the advantages of power was the stunning improvement in the attractiveness of the crew. One question, tho' - what do they do once you've finally got out to sea? How do they keep themselves entertained, while the Motorcaptain monitors all the dials and LCD's.

Also, where are the fragrent ones that should be on this forum? Ive always admired Pauline B from afar. I was hoping for a closer encounter now I'm trying to gain the Motorskills needed to be a true stinkie.

Re: Endurance

um, most sailboater's experience of powerboating is sadly like sailbad's experience - leaping off waves ina little boat and crash bang thump on to the next.

Like with aeroplaes, powerboats don't all do aerobatics.

I am moving a powrboat italy to france end november, praps you shd have a try. Much comfier than sailboating. In fact, much comfier than a house tho similar handling.
