One of our staffers here wants to take his Mrs for a romantic sojourn to the SoF, around the Nice area, and was wondering if any of you bods had any recommendations for decent hotels in the area. He's looking for "romantic, posh, and not cripplingly expensive". Anyone?

Thanks

When ? I know a stunning non-advertised place (small ) between GJ and Cannes - area called the Californie .... must be 1 mile ( down steep road) to coast .

or does he want glitz on the coast .. tell him to be a specific as he likes ( and more the better) , will find something.

Yes, there's so much choice it's hard to make suggestions. The obvious places like hotel du cap on cap ferrat come to mind. If he wants Cannes, then I would rate Martinez these days as the best, the rooms are fab since the refit and the bathrooms are stunning, could have fun with Mrs.

If he has a car and might want something more unusual, [www.hotel-de-mougins.com[/url] in Mougins is very good. Nice fit out and pool, feels more exclusive and luxurious than the cost suggests. Would impress mrs. But not quite on the seafront, obviously

Theye could have a look at the page of our site listed below. The Residence La Berlugane is particuarly good value as its owned by the state, although its not extra plush for a romantic weekend. Lots of our clients stay there whilst on courses. The Grimaldi in Nice is also very good

Good luck

Whilst you are at it Tom can you find me a place in Brittany during late October near La Rochelle, somewhere on a riverside with nearby Trout fishing.

Thanks /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Negresco

Don't go to the Negresco until they fix it up from the current fading/shabby/knackered level, and until they stop calling rooms on the side of the building from which you can just see the sea before falling out "garden sea view" rooms, rant.

Westminster was pretty decent, as I recall. Not sure there were any hotels in riviera not fairly cripplingly expensive.

Oh, there's the wotsit Auberge de Provence in Antibes (not been but heard it is ok) bet that's cheap, or otherwise Pierre et Vacances (have been, quite nice, quite romanticish, but not axshuly hotel, but wot the heck, spend the loot on eating out) rent nice little flats in Antibes right on the front with meg swmming pool, and cheap eats all around and about.

Remeber - Nice has a blimmin stoniy steep beach, so need diving shoes/pumps else ooh aargh ooh. Cannes imports several dozens of nice sand each season, so much comfier.

Erm, also remeber , each big boat contains monster blackwater tank full of pooh (cept jfm's) and i see none of them going miles offshore, but if you do go a couple of miles of shore the sea is blue, and there's no ear infections. So swim from a boat offshore, or inshore in a swimming pool. Or have a good shower.
