Honfleur

Once again, many thanks to everyone for the suggestions and advice.
Initial thoughts are to go there along the French coast and then return along the English side. Having a crew would make life a lot easier!
If you want to cruise both coasts, it might be better to do it the other way round - head out down the English, hop over and return on the French side. That way you arrive at some interesting shallow French places on the flood tide.

Not been in anywhere else along there until Boulogne although I believe Sailorman and others will be able to guide you on those harbours.
I would recommend Boulogne above Calais if only for the fact that it is 24hr access rather than waiting for the lock and avoiding a lock may again be best if shorthanded.

Calais is a bit out of the way unless you have time to spare.

Le Tréport is well worth avoiding; think of Ramsgate with the smell of garlic. St Valery sur Somme, which I haven't visited for about 30yrs is charming but the tides don't fit well from either direction and have to be got exactly right.

Le Tréport is on my list of places never to visit again!

Shows how long it is since I went there then..... :o
Maybe it was a bridge we had to wait for.........

Most likely it was the bridge, there used to be gates to maintain the level of the basin but those broke down some time back and so were repalaced with a cill. There was some talk of the gates being repaired but I have not heard anything about that for a while.

If you are looking to save a night's mooring fee, go into Calais and tie up on one of the waiting buoys and stay there. Blow up the dinghy and spend your mooring fee on an excellent dinner (Le Grand Bleu in fish market is my favourite). As a fellow Singlehander I know it is only you sharing the costs! Works particularly well if going NE as can wait a tide.

Honfleur is lovely too.

Excellent advice, thank you.

At the risk of being boringly repetitive, many thanks to all of you for you advice and suggestions. I just need to make it happen!

Maybe Fecamp is ok but Bastille day fireworks at St Valey en Caux were drowned out by some dire pop music. There was a good band going round in the evening though.
