Holding Tank cleaner

Having used our s/s holding tank for 5 years now its probably time to give it a good clean.

Can anyone recommend a chemical that will do the job thoroughly.

Why? Does it whiff? We flush with fresh water and put Elsan blue in the tank and aside from giving it a good rinse through once in a while, it doesn't need cleaning.

Stainless is not the best material for holding tanks as uric acid can attack the welds. Do not leave for long periods with waste in it. Always empty and flush with fresh water if possible.

It is the chemical used in portable toilets. Named after the make of toilet (Elsan) and not surprising it is dyed blue (I think so that you can't see it doing its dirty work!)

I think it is based on formaldehyde.

Your seagoing toilet habits must be good otherwise the contraption would have played up long ago. Why upset a harmonious biological equilibrium?

Focus on prevention rather than elective cleaning DIY. My personal tip is search all visitor baggage for those scented alcohol cleaning wipes, they cause havoc.
