Just shot home from Fowey (by car) thought i'd wack out a quick post for help,
moored on a pontoon at fowey tried to raise the zdrive,it groaned for a few inches then stopped. It will go up/down all be it v'slow a couple of inches thats it.
Being a newby to inboard/zdrive I thought i'd ask advice from you guys before phoning hand wringing/sharp intake of breath man.
The zdrive is the original volvo unit and the drive motor looks as if it could be the original.I take it that the motor has died, and will no doubt involve a new mortgage to replace, but, have you any idea of price? looks fairly simple to change unless
you guys know otherwise.
I cant go back to my mooring in Truro until I get this sorted as my mooring is semi-
drying,so until then its Fowey for me!(9qiud a night,2xHmmmph!)

Sounds like a job for Volspec. Dunno number but directory enq will have it - they're in Maldon, Essex, AFAIK

Volspec are a very large supplier of parts for Volvo engines. Their prices tend to be quite a bit less than Volvo's prices, and they're hugely knowledgeable eg they have all parts lists, exploded drawings that they will fax you, etc etc

Yup give Volspec a call and have a chat to victor, who should be able to sort you out. Always very helpful and normally knock the VAT off any parts.

In the mean time, can you not get a rope under the drive and pull it up by hand?

The parts are basically Electrolux and you can get a similar version for half the price including courier cost from www.marineparts.com I think it is off the top of my head just get part number from pump first then match it up.

Any probs let me know and I will dig out the info.

Since you say that "it groaned for a few inches then stopped" it seems unlikely that the motor has failed so I would not rush to replace it. It is more likely to be something obstructing the leg from lifting and stopping the motor. I guess that the most likely cause would be the latch that prevents the left from lifting when reversing. This could be a fault in the gear linkage but - silly question - are you sure that it was in neutral?
