Now that Andark seem to have a monopoly in this area on the south coast, has anyone recently had cause to engage the services of a diver and can give an indication of costs?

We got our lazy-line around our prop coming into our berth in Gouvia on Friday (NEVER set sail on a Friday?) due to the skipper not giving concise instructions to a rookie crew member on the urgency of getting the bow line up front and tight asap. The diver was down for eighteen minutes in total having arrived on the job within half an hour of our call to the marina office.

The cost was €50 (around £35.50)

What are Andark charging now?

that seems pretty good.

western med is generally no less than 100 euros. Not being sure of being able to get hold of them tho, i bought a tanks and breather kit. Then, with same problem and not being bothered to put that lot on, i just cut the lazy line fron and back, put a new bit in and used the mask to go under and drag/cut the old bits of line. Eighteeen minutes sounds a lot, and altho it's nice swimming this time of year, it's a bit keen to stay down so long in the marina...

I also paid €50 (Italy). The diver turned up within 30 minutes, and had about 30 minutes work. But this was in January (this year) and in an industrial channel where my mechanics have their workshop. Highly yeuch!

Sounds good - but don't blame Andark or any other diving schools for the UK cost - the HSE is the culprit. I am a part time diving instructor - and in order to do anything like that I need - a full commercial diver medical (100 quid plus p.a), full liablity insurance, a written risk assesment specific to the actual dive - a team of at least 3 divers - maybe more depending on the dive. You ain't going to get that lot for 30 quid!
