High/Lo Platform on a 25ft Boat

A hydraulic platform on a 25ft sports boat, and it looks like Chris Bangle of recent BMW fame has had his torch out.

That looks like a really good idea, although I suspect it costs more than the 50 quid I paid for my boarding ladder.

Nice idea; it would be very useful for sitting on, when cleaning weed etc from the props/ outdrive. Due to the swim platform on my boat, the only way to do that is to get fully into the water; been a bit cold to do that the last few Summers ! Have they engineered in any safety devices, to prevent anyone getting legs/ arms/ fingers trapped between the moving platform and the fixed one? If not, it could act as an effective guillotine!

Platform appears as a $6k option, I think this boat with a decent specification would be over £100k into UK with a big block, no diesel option as yet.

Cobalt have never been cheap, but as usually you get what you pay for.
What's really weird is that the big block they're listing, both for VP and Merc, is the phased out 8.1...

Jimmy, the later model boats have been using the flatter square screens, reminds me of a 70`s Glastron, I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me and more than likely improves interior space.

I missed that Mapis M, I was told earlier this year that Merc would be using a 502 block for 2010 to replace the 496 as Volvo had bought up all stock/production of 496 blocks since the anouncement to end production was made. Apparently Volvo have enough 496 blocks for the next two years. What were you expecting to see available by now?

Well, the 502 obviously, as you also say. Merc is ready to ship it to builders afaik.
Didn't hear of that VP decision, though. Two years of stock? Good luck to them...

I am confused though having looked at the link, I thought the "new 8.2" motor by Merc to replace the 8.1 was based on the 502 block, i notice reading the specification page of the link to the Merc site it is noted with a displacement of 496 CID (8.1L)?

Yup, 8.2=502. Just checked, there's clearly a mistake in the specs sheet of H.O. version.
In the non-HO you'll find the correct figures (in the 496 stroke>bore, whilst 502 is the other way round).
