Couple of weeks ago the local Lifeboat Mechanic lost his wedding ring at the shoreline of shingle beach. Searched about, gave up.
3 days later a friend of his turned up with a metal detector, found the ring quite deeply buried after a few tides.

The watch is OK, hasn't been drowned.

A former colleague wore a Rolex that he found on the Greenland ice cap. Apparently the Greenland Sirius patrol used them; I think it was a publicity deal by Rolex.

I wouldn't pin your hopes on card transactions - the "merchant copy" receipts don't include the customer name, and there will likely be hundreds of them for any particular day!
