Here's a guy with some firm views

Yachting world seem to think the Pure 42 is a capable go anywhere boat....

They always do!
I like the style of the boat. It looks aggressive. Its a nice departure from the run of the mill production boat design but why do builders not incorporate all the things that cruisers inevitably want to fit such as solar, davits, watermaker. etc.
Pegasus do this as a standard package

It's a review by a sailing publication of which I have never seen a negative one, had he reviewed it in at least part of the time in conditions that it might reasonably have been expected to encounter as an expedition yacht then it might be a valid review but not in balmy conditions in southern Spain.

You obviously have not watched the video. The dodger roof is covered with solar. Pretty sure they will add davits and a watermaker if you ask them. This is the first boat they have built. so maybe not the finished article

But hey you always have to find something to criticise.

There are lots more I could critice but I didn't want to upset the armchair done it alls

Not a question of upsetting anyone - just getting your facts right. You seem to make a habit of getting things like this wrong in your haste to diss anything you don't like.

The website for the boat shows no solar. The two panels they stuck on the roof for the boatshow are badly positioned, either side of the boom. One will always be in the shade. They alone won't provide anything like enough solar performance for what is described as an expedition boat.

The T keel is crazy on a boat that may cross oceans or undertake high latitude sailing. The chance of catching nets and pots is high.
Otherwise, its a breath of fresh air from a design perspective compared to the average cheap production boat.
Personally, I would never choose an aluminium boat. There are those that love them but I can't be doing with the corrosion aspect. Fine when brane new but I know too many boats that have corrosion problems

I think the term ‘cheap’ production boat is probably redundant....there are more expensive boats...not cheap ones

Really Really Really don't like the look of the bare aluminium ......its like polished concrete floors that are very fashionable at the moment but way too industrial for my tastes

It's a selling point ''look, with this go-anywhere boat you can flirt or bang against floating ice chunks without embarrassing unaesthetic scratches''. The boat may never meet ice during its entire life but who cares :)
Also, ballpark cost for renewal of the paint of a light alloy boat it's magnitude of a new teak deck.

Plus alu boats with huge dents in the topsides is not a good look (as seen in Trinidad following a localised storm many moons ago).

I think he makes some good points, but he should be emphasising that a more bespoke yacht designed for long-distance cruising reduces the problems rather than stating these requirements are “essential".

He is obviously upset at losing to the Pure 42, which comes across as sour grapes. He ignores the obvious impact advantages of aluminium over fibreglass.

If he wants to direct criticism towards the Pure 42, the structural combination of aluminium and fiberglass is the issue I would focus on.
