I lost the thread with the poll about 'do you help' but this is a classic example of the woman causing the problem, not the vino!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA-07umSUXw

What was she supposed to do with the line? She probably felt that the boat was in danger of ramming the moored boat and the only way she could hope to prevent that was to haul in the line. Better to hit the pontoon than another boat. As it happened, everything worked out fine so job done!

Shocking skippering job. Shocking crewing, too, just t throw the line ashore: the boat wasn't in a ready position for the line to be taken in.

The woman ashore did what you'd expect her to. The problem was created before she was thrown the line, and she had no way to salvage the situation other than to abandon the line, which would have left her open to blame.

I'm constantly surprised by skippers everywhere who seem to have no fine motor skills to place the boat stationary and parallel to the pontoon and let the lines be passed ashore rather than chucked to well-meaning but uncontrollable passers-by on a pontoon!

Ok, maybe not the best example. There was no need to send lines ashore to start with, and the wind would have blown him on.

I share your view. When mooring, lines should be passed not thrown. It has the added effect of restricting the distance that an enthusiastic helper can move the boat by pulling on the line. Ideally boats should be parked before securing lines.

Little or no tide. What breeze there was would have taken him onto the pontoon.
Hardly the cock up of the decade, but the skipper could have done a better job.

Shocked to say, I've no idea what was done wrong in that video. All looked typical of every hour I've ever spent watching boats come alongside quays.

I read the comments here first, then watched the clip expecting horrors...didn't notice any though! :apathy:

Amazes me that people have nothing better to do with their time than hang around marinas hoping to film some trifling incident to post on YouTube. Sad wretches.

The main problem was a heavy boat, and not stopping the forwards motion.
Dragging in from lines thrown ashore is a valid if technique, although lacking in style points, but not if you're still moving.

Looked like a pretty normal "oops, that nearly went wrong, well done crew " to me. There but for the grace of your diety of choice

I'm with Dan on this one.
Not pretty but not unusual.
Though I prefer to get in position before passing lines.

Fortunately nobody films my landings. any you can walk away from.
