i am currently trying to help a raggie that is berthed on the same pontoon as myself as he has been stuck here for about 3 wks, and is attempting to get back to Ireland with his boat, when he bought his boat the owner advised him not to rev the engine to hard as it will cause the engine to hunt, i have bled the system right through from fuel tank to filters to fuel pump and injectors but it is still hunting when revs above 1200, anything else should i be looking for ?? also it is blue smoking quite a bit

julian

p.s i have solved my own fuel problem renewed all fuel lines and seals all seems to be o.k now !!

It isn't maybe sucking in oil/oil vapour via the crankcase breather is it? If so it could be getting an extra bit of 'fuel' via the back door. I think I heard of this once on a Bukh engine, something to do with the hose in the rocker box either coming adrift or being kinked.

I have had a simmilar problem with my engines. Not sure wether he has the same pumps as mine. My pumps have to be filled with oil externaly now and again or they hunt.

Dunno if this helps or not but I have had problems with my diesels on Princess 32 where they would 'race' by around 300 revs and then drop back again. Turned out to be mucky filters....as soon as changed main filter element stopped doing it and also smoke disappeared.
In my case filters well clogged up so able to draw sufficient fuel at low revs but not at higher revs.
