My wife and my two daughters (3 and 5) are moving our boat from italy to cadiz -ish during 6 weeks this summer. We are going to do long day sails/ short passages. Planned route is w coast italy, elba, w corsice, sardinia, balearics, spanish coast.

The passage from sardinia to menorca is causing my wife concern. I am happy to do it all but singlehanded with just the odd bit of watchkeeping from her but she wants more cover. It doesn't matter whether she is right or wrong - i need to reassure and that means extra crew.

We have no friends up for it and i am keen to avoid too much of a fixed schedule so ideally would recruit friendly crew at short notice from uk or locally.

What are the chances of finding useful crew on either an expenses paid or paid basis.

and is the return travel as tricky as it looks (fly via barcelona?)

Advice welcome.

It is a big empty space with very little shipping (at least in May 2010 when I did it) Bit boring, although we motortsailed most of the way against a reasonable wind!

You could try the crewing agencies such as Crew Seekers, but perhaps not an attractive passage for a one off.

Will have a look at my log when I go to the boat tomorrow to see if there was anything else of note.

Possibly a live aboard in Sardinia would be up for a quick trip.
We are in Cagliari and if I was sure to be on location would be pleased to help out, others may be in the same position, try the live aboard forum.
We are finding that 'split flights' are often cheaper a more convienient, IE from Cagliari Ryan air to Marseille then to Liverpool better than easyjet to Stanstead ( for our location)
Good luck

I will try the liveaboard forum - perhaps nearer the time when we can be more sure of timing.

Thanks.

With that timescale why not head north from Corsica, go to Menton (lovely town and not expensive mooring), then travel down the French coast as there are loads of anchorages then cross back to the Balearics? That way the trips are not too long and many a nice island to visit on the S France coast.

Having done that trip 3 times don't miss out on Giglio.
