Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping there's someone on here who can identify engines on sight, I have a Princess 32 (born 197?), One of the diesel lift pumps is leaking and needs replacing but I can't order one without engine and/or pump details. I have put some pictures on dropbox

There are pic's of the lift pump in question, the full engine and whatever numbers I can find. Enough details of the engine type or pump to be able to order a replacement would be a 'life saver'.

I have had a suggestion it could be a Volvo MD21A? If that's correct then the pump just got a whole lot more expensive and difficult to find. That would lead me to two further questions:
1. Is there an equivalent car engine that would use the same parts?
2. If I give up on it and fit a 12v pump instead, do I remove the original and fit a blanking plate to the engine or do I just plug the pipe connections on the original pump, if it's the latter does anyone know the thread sizes for the plugs (bolts)?

Thank you for looking

your link is incomplete, page not found.
If you do go for a 12v pump, fit a blanking plate instead of the old lift pump.

Wow, quick and detailed, thank you volvopaul I'm suitably impressed. :encouragement:

The lift pump leaks diesel when running. When I first started looking into the repair I could see replacement pumps available for around £30 to fit perkins engines and used that price as a ballpark figure. At that price it seemed like the obvious solution and less hassle than a seal kit but I've since discovered it's not going to be that easy or that cheap. (Unless someone can tell me different?)

Looking at the third picture down there is a horizontal joint roughly across the centre of the pump, this seems to be where the leak is. Actually it's the pump on the other engine but they're identical and this one was easier to photograph.
I'd very much appreciate some experienced advice, do I try to repair with gasket paper, buy a seal kit, or replace the pump. This is not an expensive boat and I don't have particularly deep pockets so DIY is the name of the game and cost is a very important factor.

Just looked more closely and wonder is it the diaphragm that's leaking rather than a gasket? If so, how do I repair?

Worth taking it off, stripping it (take photo's at each stage!) and replacing gasket and diaphragm. Also, looks like a filter in the top. Wash and replace.

The gasket would more likely be the cause, as the diaphragm would leak Diesel into the engine oil rather than the exterior I reckon!?

Don't assume it's the gasket, Diesel 'creeps' and it could be a fuel line washer!!
