Help needed with Duckboard

Hi
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for plans and/or a guide as to how to make a duckboard from teak or similar. I would like to make one in the open checker board style rather than just straight slats. i have seen several ready made which are just not right size and also mad to measure but both are pretty extortionate in costs.

I looked into the kits from Onward a while back and although they are very good quality, they don't come cheap. You could (a) make your own from 1/2" square teak laths with a circular saw table and a chisel or (b) talk to your local woodyard about getting them to pre-cut it. (If you're near Southampton try Bamfords in Vespasian Road). Method (a) will make you realise just why they are so expensive ready-made!

An alternative design instead of 50-50 cuts is to notch the shortest laths a little and use thin (1/4" or less) cross members. This is a bit cheaper and easier but the thin bits are more prone to damage.

Whichever method, if it's for a cockpit grating then I think getting the surrounding frame the right shape, and strong enough to take the weight required, is probably the most important part.
