As some of you may be aware,my collision with one of the Thames islands resulted in some bits of my boat remaining behind when I came home.
My stainless anchor securing wotsit is lying on the bank somewhere on Isleworth Ait and having just received an estimate for fabricating a new one,am seriously considering mounting an expedition to recover it.
Is there anywhere nearbye I can launch my little rubber boat.
Scene of disaster was almost exactly opposite Kew Observatory.
My not very good map shows some streets running down to river on other side of island.

Well Fred, It was forty years ago,(!) but my father used to use a little lane that I think was at a place called Petersham meadows. It was about a mile above Richmond town centre, a sharp right turn, on the South side of the river. Nice shallow slope but on a high spring tide your car hubcaps could get covered when you left it!! Maybe somebody else will know if that place still exists?

Sorry to hear about your troubles, thought your were joking about hitting the island, so come on how on earth did you manage that /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Anyway had a quick look on multimap for you, there are quite a few boat / rowing clubs that may be able to help. See link <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=516500&Y=172500&width=700&height=400&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&scale=10000&up.x=287&up.y=6> click here </A>, think I have the right spot.

Those roads on the 'North Bank' used to be builders yards etc.. a few years ago, can't remember if there was water access?

On the south/east side of the A316 bridge there's a car park and I vaguely recall a slipway. The whole bank from there to Richmond floods at high water. Need an outboard though.

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

I think Brentford Marina is just round the corner which could answer both your parking and launching problems. I can give you a lift down on my boat at the weekend, if that's any help.

Now that could be useful.

Did not appreciate that any forumite parked their boat so near to scene of Oldgits major cock-up.Would be most interested in any recommendations you may care to advance. It all happened at HWS.If it is of any consequence the offending object/s will be lying either on top of embankment(doubtful) or more likely just a few feet out on bottom. If memory serves me well,we clobbered a willow tree just before we hit bank./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
On the other hand the perishing things may refuse to be found at all.

Re: Now that could be useful.

Dear Oh Dear,

all this (forum) rudery about us un fortunate persons in rectangular bits of tin - and you manage clout a whole island....

I'll admit to scraping along some bit of EA's infrastructure, but not a whole island for heaven's sake. HWS is not an excuse - not an unusually high S was it?

Looking at some of the replies it seems to be somewhere between Ham House and Brentford, about !.5 hours cruising in mine.

Antway I hope you find your bits and keep off (MY) non-tidal part in future - in view of posts on other Thames topics.

Please Sir it was not my fault. It was this narrow.

If I said a narrow boat doing 25 Knots whizzed past and it was their trail of flower tubs and luridly painted watering cans/buckets that we were trying to avoid which caused the accident, would any more sympathy be available./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

25 Kts???

If it was really that speed, young Sir, then you have my sympathies, a nb: at 7mph - can't be doing with all that nautical measure stuff- has a most awesome bow wave at 25 knots it must be on the plane.

Don't wish you any ill dear chap, just trying to lighten up my style.

BTW narrowboaters technique is to aim for the whites of the other boater's eyes, and bear away at the last minute; something to do with the ditch only has water in the centre of the cut.

Which side of the island were you on?

Could have been that nice Mr. Coburn in NB "Progress" going on his annual hols. He is well known for doing odd things in his boat.
