Help...Boat repair trouble

We recently removed an engine and replaced the muffler pipe. We reinstalled the engine and started it up w/ the muffs and everything seemed to be running fine. Had no problems with forward or reverse. Upon launch we started the engine and had a very loud hollow sounding knock coming from either the rear of the engine or the outdrive. This knock has a rotation sound to it. It sounds like a piece is broken off inside and on every rotation it knocks. Please give any thoughts/advise as to what this possibly could be.

I think we need a bit more info. Boat/engine/gearbox/drive etc..
