Eberspacher heater has turned up, not very old and was used in a truck, it was wired direct to battery through the Eberspacher switch - is this the way its done on a boat. It could then be switched on/off without going through battery master switch. It also has its own 10L fuel supply tank, pump etc. Is this the right way to go about it ?
Thx in advance. Phil

I have a copy of the installation instructions. If you email your address I will get them photocopied for you. My heater works through the panel, so it does not work when the battery is isolated, and it runs off the main diesel tank.

My Eberspacher instructions say wire direct to the battery. I don't ever do this on my boat, so mine is wired through the rotary switch. However, this led to the situation that I had to reprogramme the timer every time I switched off, so I led a light, individually fused and permanently live wire to the timer. This subsequently gave a few program corruption problems, which led to my discovery that there is a battery powered version of the timer that overcomes this situation.

Eberspacher also say to take the fuel direct from the tank. I took mine from downstream of the primary filter, this has given no problems and may well have contributed to the fact that my unit has now run for two years without ever experiencing a problem.

Eberspacher do recommend going direct to the batt- this is to prevent you killing the power before the unit has completed its cool down phase (it runs the fan for a while after you switch it off). If you do this you can damage the unit. I guess if you're happy that this will never happen then connect to the main boat power switch.

As for the fuel feed - I took mine to the tank direct - others have gone further downstream and therefore get the benifit of the main fuel filter. All you need is a Tee with a cutoff tap.
