I wouldn't get too far in your thinking just yet. There's a long way to go in this event, but it would be in the Solent I would think.

Would we be tied to that class of boat?
Not easy to find space for the shore facilities adjacent to good sailing water for such beasts.

Talk about counting your chickens!

I would have thought one of the bays to the west of the Solent would be a good choice - maybe base it in Portland Harbour.

Finding the space for all the shore-side facilities would be challenging anywhere

It will be in the Solent or surrounding waters. The host club would be the royal yacht squadron, and I cannot for one second see them agreeing to anything else! Bases probably in Pompey, much like they did when the cats came to town, and just like they were planning for last summer's ACWS event, before COVID put paid to it.

What would be awesome to see would be a fleet race over the original course, around the wight. As an exhibition.

Gotta win it first though, and INEOS haven't even yet qualified for the cup itself All that's really been achieved so far is to avoid being the first to go home.

Surely if the RYS were host club it would be in Cherbourg harbour?

Isn't the English attitude to the AC likely to match that of Irish television in Father Ted's "Song for Europe" episode - i.e. we daren't win it 'cos it costs too much to host. I can't see the unwashed proletariat tholing the Tories shelling out megabucks to support it and Keir S would be even more unlikely to cough up. If they make the finals I predict 3 wins to the NZ 4 - a bit like NZ in San Francisco,

Nowhere suitable in the UK. what is wrong with Valencia. Apparently it was an excellent venue when they held it there before.. Weather would be better I assume ( having never been there)
I do not think that outside the yachting community it has much relevance to the UK community & the lefties would be having a field day over the cost. Can you just imagine Swampy, straight from HS2 tunnel digging, looking for something to disrupt

As noted, a LONG LONG way to go before worrying about that.

Clearly would most likely be Solent, but for the wrong reasons. For best racing, with flat water and minimal tides, probably Portland (as used for Olympics and old speed record trials) or Clyde would be substantially better than the Solent.

While I have nothing against St Ben, I sincerely hope his team doesn't win, because if they do the English press will be as intolerable about it for decades as they have been about that narrow and dubious world cup victory fifty four years ago ...

I think your assessment of how much the general press will care about it is a long way off.
