Having a canopy made

One name worth mentioning if you didn’t know is Flexicovers.

Flexicovers – UK boat cover supplier & boat cover manufacturer for luxury yachts

They are OE producers for Princess, Sunseeker and Fairline. In the case of the Sunseeker in question they probably produced the original cover !!

I didn’t use them when replacing our Princess cockpit covers, I used Tecsew in Gosport / Farnham because I wanted to change the design to allow individual panels to be removed or rolled up and I was also fed up of the pink mould from every new white Princess cover.

I've been making my cockpit covers for our Princess 67 for less than £100.
I took the latest set out in June but apart from checking that they will fit, I haven't yet finished the poppers etc off
We are off to the boat tomorrow - I might find some time to fit them - if I do, I will post some photos.
We found time and with a little help from some friends, we fitted my new cockpit covers.
These are the second set that I've made - the first set was with a very cheap fabric that didn't last in the strong Med UV.
These new covers are made from the same material that Princess use on new boats.
Here are some pics.

I'm quite pleased with them
The following pic is the older (professionally made) covers which cost over £2200.
I made my new ones for less than £100.

Nice work! But how on earth did you do it for less than £100? Was that the actual cost or is that the adjusted cost you told your wife to remove some of the pain....

I'm making completely new covers for our fairline 36 sedan, including the addition of a complete flybridge surround canopy. In total I will need nearly 50m of material so I'm just buying a roll of sunbrella. That alone is over £1000....

I'd really like to know how you got the canvas, window vinyl, zips and fittings for that sort of bargain - could save me a small fortune.

So, here's a rough breakdown.

The white PVC canvas - say 6 sqm at £3 = £18 (I don't cut the windows out - I just make borders directly off the roll thus saving material)
Window material - 4m at £7.5 = £30 (this is the most expensive component so it might be worth changing the design to make economical cuts)
Track rope - 6m at £3.50 = £21 (In the past, I've made my own track rope but you get a stronger job with the Keder Track Rope)
Zips - say 9m at £3 = £27 (mostly made from the continuous roll of zip) - Actual zipper not included in this price - I choose plastic but metal ones are cheaper).

That totals £96 but, there are a few sundries - thread, binding tape, venture tape and fittings (lift the dots etc).
So it does come out over £100 but not by much.
OK - so a bit of "man maths" here - SWMBO would like me to include my time and the cost of the equipment.
She also likes to consider all the mistakes I've made so far.
Make your own minds up though - I will still think of it as £100s worth of materials to make a set of cockpit covers.

I have just had a new tonneau made up for our Leader 805, in Sunbrella plus £600, fitted, template made, stitched and fitted within a week. We are near Southampton and a local company BoatyBits did the work. Highly recommend them.
