Have you ever turned down a boat and then regretted it?

Looked at a Contessa 32 last year - at the upper end of my budget for a 32' boat.
In pretty good nick and with a lot of recent kit aboard.
Put an offer in (close to asking price) only to be informed at that stage that quite a lot of the recent kit was not included in the sale.
So pissed off by this that I walked.

Delighted with current boat, but from time to time I do wonder: what if...
That feels sufficiently dishonest that I'd be wondering what else the seller hadn't told me. If I'm in the market for such a thing, I don't mind buying a poorly equipped boat with issues if the seller is upfront about the issues, but I haven't got a long enough bargepole for a dodgy seller

I've looked at a few dogs and walked away with no regrets. The only time it was the other way round was looking at RS600 dinghies for my son when he was a teenager. The first one we looked at was in much better condition than the one we eventually bought. Paying the extra would have saved a lot of work later.

That's the dilemma. When you are first looking you are not sure if it's a good boat, an indifferent boat or the bargain of the century.

I would say that a lot of the best boats/deals just happen privately or within local sailing circles without ever getting to appear on the open market .
Trade between people oft known to each other and at very fair prices with a lot of goodwill and integrity and a lifelong history of gear and stuff thrown in too!
