Have i broken my ais?

Help! Im.worried ive screwed up my ais. My raymarine a75 plotter is not displaying ais data. I am showing up on Vesselfinder website. My antenna is on the push pit.

I wanted to attach a yakka WiFi bridge so I can see ais vessels on my tablet. I stripped the black plastic casing off the ais wire going into the grey box. No wires were nicked in the process. I then stopped, thinking I should just check all was working as it should on the a75 plotter. But I cannot see any ais ships. The ais layer is on.

The fact that my vessel is showing up on the vesselfinder website suggests I am transmitting.

The green led is on, on the grey box.

Maybe I just don't have any vessels nearby. But it's a bit odd.

I am sailing to Shotley tomorrow so that will be a chance to check.

Any suggestions on what i can do to check if I am receiving ais data and why it isn't displaying on the plotter?

I was going to splice off the brown wire to get ais data to the yacka WiFi bridge but I'm stopping until I know whether I've messed something g up.

Assuming you entered your mmsi into your plotter to avoid cpa alarms with your own boat, could you change the value and see if you show up? Also, check the ‘last update’ of your boat on the vessel finder (or whatever) app to check it is current.

If you can see your own vessel on Vesselfinder then you should also be able to verify if there is other live traffic around to then cross check against your own plotter AIS.

Since posting, I see you have the AIS 650.

You can't get high baud rate AIS from that NMEA connection, you have to hook into the "Sea Talk" connector instead.

I would carry on with connecting the yakka. Nothing you have done is likely to have stopped your ais working.
The yakka when connected to the correct nmea output has a set up screen that shows the raw data being sent out on wifi. If you see AI VDM and AI VDO sentences on the viewer then you know that your ais is transmitting and receiving on ais. The yakka should be configured to the higher baud rate. Connect the brown nmea + from the ais to the yakka input connect the blue nmea - to the yakka common 0V connect fused 12v to yakka power and Ov to common. Set baud rate for port to 38400.

You don't need to use seatalk for your purposes.

I have found that it can take quite a few minutes for the class B rather B+ transmitters to be displayed on my cp or on my tablet from the yakka. This might be your problem.
Looking at the raw nmea sentences will give you the confidence that everything is working!

That's not correct. The matrix above is for the multiplexing capability of the AIS650. AIS and GPS are both output on the high speed (38400) port
