Hatch Lifters

Do any of you flash types out there have boats with motorised hatch lifters for the engine hatch? If so please could you see if there's a manufacturesrs name and address etc on them for me? Alternatively, if any of you know where they can be obtained I'd appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure Lancing do them as a variant on the hydraulic ram used on trim tabs. Certainly the instructions that came with my tab kit mention hatchlifters from the same company (TrimMaster)

I have one too - though it is basically a hydraulic pump (that also does the autopilot steering) with a connection to the doors.

Vetus do the pump unit, rams and all the other gubbins you will need....though may be a better idea going for a packaged all in one solution from Bennett or whoever which might be an easier install if you aren't gonna run any other gear off the hydraulics.

Bennet lifters are ok, but they are an add on to your existing trim tabs and involve
Solenoid valves, pipework and oil etc.

Aquafax and ASAP both do a very nice electric ram, simple to fit with a two way switch and simple wiring.

Tony, a gas strut wd be a cheaper alternative and maybe just as good? Loads of industrial suppliers have catalogues full of them, stainless steel ones too

I agree, my engine room hatch(s) are fitted with plain old gas struts and work a treat. The cost of fitting a motorised unit would be horrific.

these sound fab. No, I haven't gottem. Mind you, if I had got them, they'd be wonderful. Then they'd break. So much better with ornery cheap things.

..sorry, not sure what came over me there. I would strongly recommned these BUT you also need a remote control. make sure also that the swithc to operate the electric engine hatch is very conevenient and has a very powerful lectric motor so you can WHAP! smack visitors in the face or hurl them out the windows, oops sorry dear....

Wow ... a new lease of life........

.....to an old thread !
The original activity on this thread was around a month ago but suddenly today iots awake again! In the meantime I have obtained (with the invaluable assistance of Col hereabouts) an 18" stroke electro-mechanical hatch lifter and a remote up/down switch and duly installed same as a working arrangement! Total cost around £85 plus a bit of running around meeting Col etc etc cos he found a couple in the Barge Chandlery at Bursledon and was quick enough to relate what he'd seen to what I asked the forum about !
A new actuator of same type is around £250 inc VAT .
I did seriously consider gas struts but would have needed two, one each side which v. difficult to locate on P32. Also the gas struts only start to help you once you have lifted the hatch the initial foot or so from the horizontal which is the most difficult bit !!!
