Has there been a lot of rain on the Thames?

It occurred to me as I was lying poolside sunbathing that it was the 1st of November and the PLA were drawing off the Thames from tomorrow. What I need to know is will I have to pay someone at the yard to keep an eye on my boat or has there been so much rain that the river is metres above normal anyway and I can carry on sipping my cocktails without a care. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Well it often seems to rain on the Thames but we were out on the Thames at Marlow yesterday(it did rain a bit) and it seemed pretty normal - Hireboats etc were out and the river was not even fast flowing. Over the last couple of years the dangerously high water and current levels were I think during Jan/Feb. Always call a lock keeper to be sure. Keep sipping.........

One day my boat will come

Go back to your Cocktails and sip peacefully secure in the knowledge that Thames levels are still at summer heights.

01:00 Sat morning.

Just came back through the Lands End ford on the River Loddon, which is a good indicator of flooding further down Thames Valley. Bounced tyres off floor and barely made it through. Current was vicious, suspect Thames will be in full flood tomorrow. Gales not as bad as last weekend but forecast to be vicious. Will go take a look at your boat if you like?

Don't worry, enjoy cocktails, we'll take care of boat if river rises further.

Thanks Brendan.

The PLA are drawing water of the Thames from today to enable maintanance work at Richmond Lock and Weir and so I am more concerned about the boat grounding as I have a 3/4 keel. I have just managed to get my Boathouse phone number so I´ll get them to keep an eye open (I know they would anyway). Thanks very much for you offer.

Of course, I would have had the number all along had I not left my phone on the baggage check conveyor belt at Gatwick. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
