Has Pete (DAKA) run out of ideas to bait Raggies ???

I'm totally astounded Gary mate ..............

I just suggested the cost of service might be wasted as it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a recon drive every 2 years (you need to check out the deal Volvo are offering, includes steering rams too)
, sell the old one on ebay in july for a ransom :encouragement:

(BTW I did exactly that with a gearbox of mine a few years ago, it only needed a petty repair but I got a new one and sold the old one after repair to save down time)

I then post to ask how many boats have made it off their berths in November ..........

How can that be viewed as pulling legs. Ooooops sorry please dont get upset , figure of speech :playful:

the last time I posted on scuttlebutts "colregs and why you have to get out the way" went down reasonably well, they appear less touchy than outdrive owners

MBY or maybe PBO should run a "crash test mobo".
1. some sort of Princess or Fairline on shafts
2. something with outdrives
3. something with IPS

Run all 3 into the pompey submarine barrier at 20kts, and see which boats are still floating after 60mins, and which owners are in the liferaft/tender/kayak/wetsuit/bermudashortsswimming.

I can see the benefit of such a test for outdrive boat and possibly the IPS , thats just the sort of thing they do but in all honesty can you imagine a shaft drive boat owner been stupid enough to balls up the navigation to that extent ??

Blame gary, this is his trolling thread ;)

Can you imagine a racing driver doing this after months of preparation, milling around at the start of Cowes to Torquay? Ah, hold on a mo...

Why do people bolt half an outboard on the back of otherwise reasonable boats?

In order to use substantially less fuel for any given speed and distance.
It's not an issue for a floating cottage, but if you actually want to go anywhere, it is.

Try searching for older 40ft shaftdrive flybridges that are for sale: you could run the same query four times in a year and get almost the same results.

But isn't that big hole(s) in the transom a bit iffy? Surely the boat will sink a lot quicker than one with shafts if the seals go?

It happens less often than you might think, despite my previous warnings ... most of that hole is plugged with metal.
Change the bellows every couple of seasons, and it will never happen.
The difference is that no rotating part is ever in contact with the bellows.

Well that one backfired Gary, you've got the raggies coming over here and sticking the boot in now ;)

PS
Mark, for full effect you might want to do a quick search on steering rams and aluminium props F I Z Z Z Z Z Z;););)

Ask the Captain of the Concordia :)

Besides, not really a lot different to drilling a few holes in the bottom to bolt on a large lump of lead/iron that can have a tendency to drop off... :p

You'd need to drill holes for a couple of hundred keel bolts to get anywhere near the size of the hole in a transom you need to stick half an outboard through :hororr:

Havent been in here for ages but its nice to some are keeping up the standards

Where's that roll about smiley gone

Keeping up the standards ? :disgust:

Its just another 'pick on DAKA day' as far as I can tell

Welcome back .

.

we need to start a poll on that one Pete..

"how often should Daka be picked on"

1: every waking minute
1: hourly
1: daily
1: weekly
1: ad hoc when the feeling takes you
2: never

I'd start one but that's your job, so I won't

the answer is of course option 1:) :) :)
