Has anyone been to LIBS today?

Boats you cant see because they are curtained off?????

I went to Dusseldorf show a few years ago there was a 90ft boat curtained off?

Do I aspire to it , well no I don't even remember what make it was and as I never saw it no I cant aspire to something I have not seen.

If you are bringing in a 31ft model for a wide market appeal , get two on the stand and let everyone look at it.

Marketing boolocks!

Which 31ft boat are you referring to?

It's a concept. If there is an interest, it may be built. Specs show it as around 30ft, single engine with possible hybrid options. I guess it is all subject to change depending upon the feedback received from the public and dealers.

Ok so I said 31ft and its 30ish?

It needs a two engine option as well to be taken seriously for a lot of users .

Your url doesn't work - but I guess you're talking about the Fairline Esprit? It wasn't really behind curtains as such - they'd set up a little walk-in cinema under the main stand showing a short promo on loop, with some static info displays. No models, and definitely no physical boats. A slightly unusual pre-construction marketing approach, granted, but not completely off the chart. As I understood it, the idea was to get punters to have a look at the promo, and then listen to feedback which in turn might inform the development. It was nicely drawn boat, no doubt about it, but it did look like it wanted a couple of V10's on surface drives, not a 12kts hybrid powertrain.

As an alternative, what about this for the smallest console rib ever :D

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for putting this one up as I just bought the 'Cabrio' 275 open version.:o It costs less but is too small for a console but will carry 3-4 peeps in open format. That 245 is far too small for a console; one person and a dog only. 'Cabrio' looks like a real quality build and fittings.

The main attraction to me was the fact that the transom folds flat without deflation so a dinghy on the swim platform can leave the outboard in place but folded right over and into the dinghy so as not to have the props shaft hanging out as a trip hazard. This will also keep the outboard covered with a generic tender cover, no special shapes for the motor.

This will def. fit on a Phantom 40 too as there is only one transom door port side.! :encouragement:

You moved over to Cats then roger? If so have you had a quote from finnings for future servicing?

Yep, we're onto Cats soon. Servicing will be done by 'Col' as he's looked after all my boats. Very pleased with his service and experience, like you he has a solid reputation about these parts. So I'm quietly confident that we'll be fine.:)

Thanks for asking.

Well just got back from libs ,yes it is smaller but still had a very enjoyable day,no problems looking at any boats, even got swmbo to go onto the new hardy boat with her hand bag, have to say they were very obliging spent sometime showing us over there boat ,perhaps someone there has been looking on here :) main reason for going was to look for a new tender, think might have found one, but it was not at the show so will have to weight till see one in the flesh, has anyone got any information about a Brig 340 eagle inflatable rib, with a 40 hp outboard, as this seems to tick all the boxes of what we are looking for .

I can't believe how quiet the show was today.

So I did. Unfortunately they wouldn't let us look at their boats without registering, but given the queue we didn't bother. I hope that Fairline find some customers from the line of school kids registering.
I only went on the first Saturday. Fairline had queues to get on most of their boats pretty much all afternoon. Quite a long queue for the Sq78. I mean people queuing at the boat transoms, even after registering (people who already know their dealers were pre registered so didn't have to). Fairline were not being difficult about restricting the number of bodies on each boat; they simply had the (good-quality) problem of lots of people on the stand and there was little more they could do than have Tensabarrier queues

I went yesterday and had a really good look at everything as it was very quiet. No problem getting on anything - left the handbag at home just in case, Fairline even started offering me booze! (mind I was very taken with the new squadron 48 and the Sales guy could tell). had a look at the new Princess 43 (47 footer really) - absolutely beautiful. so well detailed that I don't think I would be prepared to put it outside in the rain let alone take it to sea - it might get dirty.
Show is better for being just one hall as you don't waste time walking past loads of cleaning/hot tub/holiday stands. I even bought a few bits - new stern thruster control with a very good show discount (thanks AR Peachment) and a tube of glue. that should keep the marine industry in champagne for years.

Hi RR,

I am considering a 275 cs but I am not sure about the size...I only have 3m to spare in the tender garage and would rather have one that fits than having to deflate/re inflate on use.
Its usually only 2 of us but sometimes three so if it is snug I am happy...

I am pretty sure that I want a console tender so I guess my options are limited but it sounds like you are happy with the 275 open, what size / make engine do you have with it?

I going up on Friday for a looksee and maybe to do a deal....

regards

Nigel

It's a concept.
It seems that it's not actually a concept at all as a concept boat implies something physical to see and touch in the same way as a concept car. What it seems to be is a sketch of a boat with some vague ideas floating around it on hybrid power trains. A bit disappointing really and I'm not really sure why Fairline is bigging it up as every boatbuilder must have sketches and ideas on new models circulating internally. But I suppose it has worked in marketing terms as it has got us talking about Fairline

I've been fearing for its future ever since it moved Earls Court. Should be put out of its misery as far as I'm concerned.

Or mebbe the move to Excel was what was needed to prevent its premature demise.Therebye keeping it going until the next housing boom so that we can all start borrowing like there is no tomorrow on the strength of some good olde fashioned property inflation.
Bring it on.:)

Whats needed is for the BMF to put all their eggs into one basket and make SIBS the only UK show and the premier on-water boat show in Europe. LIBS is dying on its feet; you only need to look at the ever dwindling number of manufacturers represented there, the dwindling floor space used and the dwindling number of visitors. It would be much better if the UK boating industry put all it's resources into one mega show instead of splitting them between one decent show and one lame one

However the SIBS venue is far from ideal - and transport links are nothing like as good as London

Except for those who are boating in September.

No venue is ideal for everybody; Excel is hardly ideal for many people. But the proof of the pudding is in the figures. In LIBS first year at Excel (2004), there were 213,000 visitors. This has dropped steadily every year with only 93,000 visitors last year. Hardly a ringing endorsement by the boating public. Meanwhile, the attendance at SIBS has remained fairly steady with 111,000 visitors last year so now SIBS is the larger exhibition. And certainly it is larger in terms of exhibitors with a far greater variety of manufacturers than are present now at LIBS
