Guernsey Things to do

Apologies if this isn't quite the right forum, but we're off to Guernsey for the first time next week (flying though not boating)...

I was however hoping to do a few boaty(ish) bits whilst we're there...however google is severely letting me down unless virtually no-one does boat trips anymore?

All I was after was a simple boat cruise to Herm, Sark or round Guernsey...but not on a RIB (I'm a big fan, but my wife is less so) and Bumblebee, which from what I gather used to do day trips on Cat's appears to have stopped. So does anyone else offer passenger cruises (not private charter)?

Secondly, I fancy a go at Stand up Paddleboarding, does anywhere offer this (just a trial/starter/basic lesson)...not being an RYA course (and hence not on their website), I'm struggling to find anywhere.

To avoid the sarcastic comments in advance yes I have tried google...I apologise if I've missed some obvious options, but feel free to post them if thats the case!

We have just returned from a week in Beaucette - had an excellent time, weather was great and 'The Restaurant' is worth a well worth a visit.

The kids went coasteering and the company also did SUP - http://outdoorguernsey.co.uk/

Bumblebee and Island Rib Voyages now one and the same Rib Voyages worth a trip.

Day in Herm, dont forget the sunscreen, Herm Trident.

But Bumblebee don't seem to offer tours to Herm on the cat anymore, they just do the RIB tours and Mrs vjmehra is less than keen on that idea :-(
 
As Bandit noted, Herm Trident run small ferries regularly to Herm. Best option is just to head down to the harbour and follow the advertising boards to the kiosk to get tickets. The Tourist Info office will put you in contact with other activity companies such as SUP. If it's anything like Jersey the beach concessions which run the activities will give you basic tuition.
 
I second the Island Rib Voyages (http://www.islandribvoyages.com/). They are simply terrific. Far better than you can imagine. We (and the grandchildren) love them. Sark smugglers caves (and yes, you go right into them and have to back out), Atlantic seal colony on the reef just norh of Herm - almost lost count of ho many times we've done them. Spending a day on Herm is splendid on a sunny day; Shell beach is a paradise for kids. Walks, views, ice-cream, oh dear, I could go on and on. And walks around Guernsey's south coast is breathtaking.

Don't forget to visit Castle Cornet (St. Peter Port) and Fort Grey on the west coast for Maritime history!

Check out the Beaucette marina website for the story of the marina...very interesting and a nice spot for walking and food. http://www.beaucettemarina.com/

The round Island bus as mentioned, is the 92 and only costs a couple of quid. But maybe worth going on a guided tour bus as you'll find out a lot more.

Islandribs definately best for local boat trips. A trip to herm on Trident is essential in my view...especially if the weather's decent.

If you like walking, you could take the coast path from St.Peter Port up to the Clarence Battery for views and then along to Fermain where there is the Fermain Beach Cafe overlooking the popular Fermain Bay where I anchored out for my lunch hour last week!....


There's too many restaurants, cafe's, Kiosks etc to mention all around the coast and great walks of all types (southcoast for cliff walks, West and North for flat beach side walks.) If the weather is good fish and chips on the sea wall or a pub dinner at the Rockmount both at Cobo on the west coast watching the sun set is amazing.

The forecast looks ok for next week. Have fun!
 
Actually one more thought, is there anywhere that would bareboat hire a RIB/powerboat (for half a day or a few hours ideally)?

I have done up to (and including) RYA Intermediate Powerboat and owned a RIB for a few years, my wife has some experience too (on our RIB), but no bits of paper to back that up!

I would say categorically there is not..
 
Hi, were you on the Princess in the outer corner of Beaucette?
We arrived last Sunday - directly from our home port in Dover on the Broom 450.
