The grill mesh (?fret) on my neptune/plastimo cooker has disintegrated and no longer glows red. The replacement is cheap but it looks like a lot of dismantling to get to the grill assembly. Has anyone done this and any tips?

Hi, I replaced the one on my Neptune a couple of years ago. However, I could only seem to get a complete assembly not just the mesh, it was anything but cheap! However, I'm not sure that I would have been able to just replace the mesh as a lot of the parts had sort of fused together. Even with the complete assembly I had to make some new fittings etc. Other than that it was a relatively straight forward job.

Have done it on a Neptune 2000, came as new assembly, not just the mesh. easy enough job, maybe 1/2 hour.

Not sure that anything galvanised is a good idea, when the galvanising starts cooking off the chef's likely to get galvy flu.
Is the original stainless or mild steel, best stick with a like for like replacement or at least find something suitable in the same material.
