Whilst i know what a white or red flare is for i am not sure of the significance of. The green one
What would one indicate when fired from a Dutch warship ( one did this when I approached one near Ijmuiden one year)
Why would a flare manufacturer in the uk supply green as well as red & white flares

Submarines fire a so called 'green grenade' which is in reality a 1 1/2 inch very pistol cartridge (standard very pistol is 1 inch) which can be fired from a submerged signal ejector (SSE) from deep.

Green = there's one in the area simulating something ..... so start your engine & keep a GOOD lookout..... ;)

Simples! ;)

You obviously know of the red and white flares and have only now discovered the Starboard Flare. :D

.
Red = Turning to port
White = sailing straight ahead and I am not altering course for anyone
Green = Turning to Starboard

Simples :D

Try it next time you are out in the Costa Solent - I am sure all will marvel at your mastery of the humble flare......;)

As far as I'm aware green flares are not recognised as having any specific meaning to the coastguard or rnli. Not necessarily the same in other countries though so best not to fire them off willy nilly.

The green flare was on a Moored Dutch naval vessel so i do not think he intended to turn anywhere. The flare lasted for what seemed like an eternity but was probably only 90 seconds
