greek marina costs

If all the Greeks, the rich ones and ones in authority, such as lawyers, doctors, notaries, government officials, people in business and even bar/restaurant owners, paid the right amount of taxes and the tax collectors werent corrupt, and the politicians werent corrupt, pensions werent ridiculous, maybe just maybe the Greek economy would not be in such a mess.

I do believe you have hit the nail almost on the head!

Hmm did'nt TURKEY give all or most of the Islands to GREECE?

No, the Greek Navy (1912) and Italy (!947) did.

By the way, there was no Turkey before 1922. There was the Ottoman empire that ruled several nations which regained their freedom after its fall. Modern Turkey was founded by Kemal Attatourk and claiming Ottoman Empire's territory is as if Greece was claiming Byzantine Empire's or Alexander the Great's territories.

Hmm, I 'm afraid it's more than that.

Markets attack!
Wait for it, everybody's turn is coming.

I really hope that I 'm wrong...

Wandering

This thread concerned the cost of marinas in Greece. It has wandered into politics! Where does it go from here?

Yes, but fundamentaly the Bubbles have not managed their home affairs very well in regard to the points raised re corruption, tax and pensions. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Hmmmnnnn....

According to the immigrant car-washers in my local town, ALL of Greece once belonged to Makedonija, where they come from. They do an excellent job and even though they charge nearly twice as much as the Shqiperians (Albanians to you Fred!) down the road, their plot always has a long queue.

Not aware of this advice, doesn't appear to be on the Foreign Office website.

I don't think this is a new thing. All UK residents in Greece, just as in any other foreign country have always been supposed to register with the British Consulate, although few do when they are in Europe. From memory we did it online and it took about 3 minutes several years ago.

Glyka,
the Greeks spend a disproportinate % of GDP on their defence budget. The question is why did they do this?

As far as I am aware they do this because most of their defence budget is spent in France and Germany and neither of these countries want them to reduce the spending. Most Greeks want defence to be cut in the present climate but it's strange that this is not one of the cuts that has been required ...

. . . . Is it a co-incidence that the 23% discount offered is the same as the 23% VAT rate? The Greeks will most likely continue to not remit VAT resulting in good deals for berth holders until the cards fall. . . .

To be accurate, the discount offered by the Kiriacoulis Group (medmarinas) was 17% - for annual berth pre-payment, with an additional 6% for RYA/CA members. I'm no expert, but since the parent company is stock exchange listed, I can't see how they could fail to remit VAT.

An additional benefit offered with the annual pre-payment deal, is up to 30 days free berthing in any of the other three marinas in the group: it swung it for us and we've taken an annual contract in Levkas.

Greece

I had my boat delivered to Greece by jpyachtdeliveries.com and they did a top Job in getting her there. Once there it was idyllic and not expensive. Moorings were reasonable and food excellent in the local taverna.
