Basically I believe they provide a service to clients ( think free wifi at shopping centres ) whereby anyone who logs on is tracked as regards where they visit, what they buy and probably what they had for breakfast..

SaaS is Software as a Service. Think Google and Cloud. They don't actually sell you the software they manage it themselves and you pay them for that privilege.

They're basically looking to sell to businesses usually because those are the people that really tend to go for these things. Most companies dislike making things themselves.
