Granny bars

Never seen then in a chandler's shop, I suspect you want a stainless fabricator to make you some?

You're probably right ... I've never looked for them in a chandler's and have always known them as granny bars ... they must have a proper name I suppose but I'm darned if I can think of it! None of the above work!

No, you will have to get them custom made unless you can find a fabricator who has made them for a production builder (when we had them!) and has patterns for something that might suit. Also doubt that a readymade set will be any cheaper than having them made as there are few economies of scale.

No those aren't granny bars they're just handrails ... by granny bars I mean the bum height ones you can lean against while working either side of the mast. I can feel a visit to a stainless steel fabricator coming on!

Wouldn't they be "fanny bars" in the USA :o

Sorry about that, but I have found this under "mast safety bars".

Thanks Philip .... they look about right. 'Fanny bars' indeed ... must be a joke there somewhere - I must give it some thought.
By the way ... you're a St.Ives man I see ... I come from an old St.Ives family - used to keep a boat at Mylor as well ... funny old world innit?

"Fanny Bars". The Yanks call our Bum Bags, Fanny Bags - as in the Royal Navy calling the aft deck the quarter deck, they call it the Fantail.

Yes, still in the St.Ives area, and keep our boat at Mylor. What family are your from?

I know I didn't find where they are on sale, but they do give dimensions to get them made.

Now I understand - I thought that you were looking for pensioners' pubs.
