If you are thinking of doing a bareboat charter in Greece my advice would be to think twice about doing business with GPSC, a company based in Philadelphia. They have a most tempting web site, but all is not what it seems.
GPSC is geared to providing Americans with a holiday in Greece, with some time on a yacht. They are more like travel agents and handle flights, hotels, transfers etc. and a spell on a skippered yacht. The boats operate out of Kalamaki and we have yet to hear of one that went beyond the Saronic Gulf.
But GPSC is definitely unhappy with the concept of bareboating and put considerable hurdles in our way once we had paid the deposit. And the boat we took, an Atlantic 700, was in a disgraceful state and frankly unsafe. The response from GPSC was that we chartered an old boat (1997!) and what did we expect. They accept no responsibility for the condition of the boats and said that if we have a complaint we should take it up with the owner; they merely act as booking agents!
I might add that we have been chartering in the Med for over twenty years, going once or twice a year, and we have never encountered anything like this. Ah well, back to Vernicos, Kiriacoulis, Sunsail, Moorings, Cosmos, Stardust and Top Yacht, all of whom we have dealt with in the past and know how bareboating should be done.
