My brother-in-law, who is not a man of money, is restoring an old sailing boat. And good for him you might say. The problem is he has been given a gift of a second hand Apelco GPS GXL 1100. That is not the problem he is grateful for the gift he would have been even more grateful if the operating manual had been included. Can anybody help with the manual. Your help please

I threw mine out last year but am not sure if I kept the manual. I will check, but I am away from e-mail for 2 weeks, so give me a reminder after then.

You certainly do need a manual as, unlike the moders GPS's, the model he has is not very user friendly. Also, becase the GXL1100 is of an older generation its positions are not quite as accurate and the speed-over-ground is very inaccurate. Also, you need to treat the aeriel with care as the main receiving circuits and processor are located inside the aeriel with a multi-core shielded cable between it and the display unit. BUT, it will certainly be better than nothing!

It doesn't have my postcode engraved on it, does it? I fitted a brand new one when I first bought my present boat, something like 7 years ago. Arriving the following weekend, someone has stolen it complete with antenna and pushpit fitting. As you can imagine, the police could hardly contain their efforts to retrieve it (not) and we never heard from them or it again. Sorry, don't have the manual any more.
