I've been asked to look for a GPS with mapping ability as a chrimbo present for someone, budget is £160 max, its for use in a car, not boat, what is the score with handhelds that do mapping? city point databases look a bit crap, mapping ones seem to be big cash.

Can you interface a cheapo hand held to a mobile (nokia 6600) and down load a map to the fone and use the GPS to get position?

£160 now thats a task and a half. Best trying the Dell Axim route and seeing if you can get an all in package at the right price.

I can get you a Garmin Quest at a good price ut its way off the £160 mark. Dont know of any others. Have a look at the Dell site www.dell.co.uk and see what they have.

I agree the Garmin Quest is the best product on the market at the moment but it is way above your budget.

TomTom are just about to release their excellent voice directional sat nav package for the Nokia 6600, so that would prob be the best option for less than £200.

You may find a few Garmin Legends still about (Staples were selling them off for little over £100 recently). They've got good mapping abilities, but limited to 8MB chunks.

For car though you don't really want anything less able than TomTom.
