GPS coverage in the Clyde will be restricted this week

nd a bearing compass on the wing of the bridge or Monkey Island. How did we manage without GPS ? Three weeks across the Pacific and no sun sights. Cant miss the west coast of America and the local radio stations soon identify where you are :()
What about the Skye Bridge:)
A bridge to far if in a submarine.

There are pertinent reasons, linked to national security for causing GPS to cease functioning.

Publicising it widely compromises national security.

This website chooses to publicise naval movements while forbidding discussion of the war in Ukraine.

Is it more important to the British public to publicise Russian oligarch and naval ship movements or short term localised loss of GPS?

Many Russians do believe Putin is a god.

...... and failure to publicise it compromises the personal security of the many citizens that rely on the GPS system. As with many parts of modern life it is becoming necessary to have a plan B - map/chart reading isn't difficult !

I can only speak personally however I use a pencil and a chart to record my location periodically when conditions suggest it's appropriate. Computers are dispensible and unreliable.

In the beginning of GPS I used it extensively- possibly compulsively.

Don’t use it so much anymore but it sits there chuntering away to itself in the background.

I wonder how much I’ll panic the day it falls over as the viz goes to shit?

I mostly use GPS to estimate tide effects - comparison with log and compass - a left over habit from racing. Also useful for checking that my positional awareness at night is accurate, it is all too easy to form sparse visual cues into an erroneous pattern, specially when tired.

I think the important thing to remember is that if you lose your GPS fix then you are about to get run down by an aircraft carrier
