GPS coverage in the Clyde will be restricted this week

There are pertinent reasons why other water users should be aware that GPS signals are being interfered with. Apart from chart plotters, are DSC, AIS, EPIRB, PLB, security tracking apps, and I'm sure there are more, affected? I rather like the idea that lifting the flap and pressing the red button (when in imminent risk to life, of course) will bring help

Yes, the Cooncil won't be able to track the bucket lorry. ?

I recall visiting Newcastle on HMS Broadsword in 1985. Berthing arrangements were changed at the last minute due to a parked car - on the river bed!o_O

My remark was a bit tongue in cheek, but thanks for the reply.
Would not either of those require the union flag to be up the main-mast rather than the jackstaff?
Dunno...
The Union Flag (also known as the Union Jack) should be flown as a jack by Royal Navy ships only when moored or at anchor. If flown while underway, the ship must be dressed for a special occasion or celebration with masthead ensigns, otherwise it signals that the Monarch or an Admiral of the Fleet is on board. The Union Flag may also signal that a court martial is in progress.

Can you actually do this ?
Like, how could you switch off satellite signal to a tiny localized part of the planet but leave it ok for the rest ?

They seem to be able to do it regularly in the Minch, when it's time to play excercise "Joint Warrior".

Interesting - I'd love to know more about the technology. Maybe it involve jamming somehow ??
The genuine satellite signal is so low-power at ground level that it probably does not take much crude power to blot it out... I think there was some concern about ordinary lorry drivers or car thieves defeating trackers that way, though of course they knew near enough where the receiver was that they wanted to jam!

The Nav Warning always refers to GPS "jamming". Between GPS jamming, and rocket firing over huge areas to the West of the Hebrides, we sometimes wonder what we've done to deserve such treatment. Welcome to Scotland!
