Is there a reason for the vague glimmers one sometimes sees in the sea, on Googlemaps?

For example, the yacht (at least, the shadow of a yacht) between the carpark at Eastney, and the westernmost shore of Hayling Island (Lat 50,47' 33.5 / Long 1,01' 35.35), about a quarter mile SSW of the Ferry Boat Inn.

Yachts generally show up as bright white and clear. Is this one just decked in grimey grey Treadmaster?

Or...is it the phantom Dufour of Langstone Entrance?

The result maybe of combining information from 2 or more images. although this one does look like it has grey decks

Take a look at the Plymouth breakwater

I agree thats an image overlay thing. If I've got the right one, the boat is next to a fishing/working vessel a little further up the screen. Seems to be a small tender just next to it too (next to the ghost yacht).

On google earth, look at Portsmouth Harbour, Fareham Lake, 50'50 23N. 1'09 29W, bring the resolution altitude down to 40 metres and you will clearly see a sunk boat. Spooky!
Don't know anything about it, just found it by accident.

Took me a while to find it as I was using decimal minutes!

Anyway, I'm sure that sunken boat is clearly a ghost overlay image of the floating boat to the West. There are even ghost images of the mooring buoy and something else near to the buoy. It is an interesting phenomenon though.
