I clicked in a yacht icon in Oostende Hbr & its track was shown.

My guess is the yacht has an AIS transponder, continuously transmitting it's position, speed etc. (including, if he doesn't bother to update it, "ünder way" when he's clearly berthed alongside). This is the source of info for all the marine (and air) traffic sites that have sprung up. It's not hard to imagine how Google Earth gleans those data from the interweb.

It's just like Farcebook really: those who choose to broadcast their personal information have little right to call into question anyone who receives it and puts it to their own use. If you don't want the world and his wife to know something, keep it to yourself - don't even post it on ECF!

What do you mean a yacht Icon. I have opened Google Earth and if I look at the aerial short of any marina I don't see any Yacht Icons, have you installed some kind of plugin?

The hint was google earth "PRO" now free download

Not sure if that is relevant (I've now got Pro so cannot compare). But what "layers" you have turned on is, as it always used to be, crucial. Experimentally, I found that within "Gallery" is "Wikiloc" which shows two yacht icons in Ocean Village Marina...

I've used Google Earth with scanned charts overlayed. My GPS plotted my position and Marine Traffic showed other vessels. It was brilliant until Marine Traffic switched off the service early this year! How else can we get AIS data onto Google Earth?
