Well nothing to do with boating this time, horror or horrors Nautical actually did something non- boaty this week
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Went to Goodwood Festival of speed on Friday and had a brilliant non-boaty time.... good Lord you can actually have fun and not be on water? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif actually it pains me to say yes. Stayed in the Goodwood Park hotel the evening before which was the best decision of the visit, fell out of bed at 09.00 after stuffing face with much lovely food and falling over juice the night before and was in the grounds at 09.30 (ish) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, swmbo's brother left home 15 miles away at 08.15 and didn't get in to the venue till after 11.00 because of the humungous trafffic jam on the way in.

Never been before and was really impressed with the organisation but more surprised to see so many boat stands even Atlantis had a stand.

Bit disappointed though in the hill climbing thing, some absolutely awesome cars but either driven by numb skulls or very rich elderly chaps with more money than sense having bought ex F1 cars but struggling to get on song or even give it some berries, a few really wicked machines with proper drivers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Best sounding jobbie was this years LeMans Aston Martin, just awesome sound.

Anyway a few pics for those interested in land based erotica.

Thanks for the pix - I was there too on Friday; 0830hrs and had a straight run in from Puerto Solento.

Weather was fine all day although looked a bit iffy at times.

More boats than ever this year lots of RIBS etc and shared own -a- ship (pun intended)stuff .

Don't worry about it, this post is far too good for the lounge.

Great to hear about the festival. Somewhere i've always wanted to go to, especially as i was involved in the British Hillclimb championship for about 5 years as a mechanic and we became British Champions in 1988 with a Pilbeam Repco 5litre, an ex Jack Brabham F1 engine. Our Car was a guest at the show that year, and i was so dissappointed i couldn't make it!

Great pics, thanks again.

Cheers

Al.

Yeah weather was forecast pants but it turned out ok in the end, would have been a bit of a mud bath had it been otherwise. Shame didn't know you where there I might have stood a guiness /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, guess its the same guiness bar that does the boat shows, actually as you say had a bit of a boaty feel to it.

Think traffic was a different story coming tother direction, certainly took us a while to get out around 17.00.

Shame you couldn't make it Al, well worth a look, funny thing though there was more exotica in the hotel car park than at the show, it was wall to wall Astons, Ferraris, Lambos etc. I let the side down of course by arriving in a bippy Fiat hire car, felt like a giraffe in a tin can! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Being the mechanicy type...how did they do this then?, I had a shufty but couldn't see how they supported the Rangey, there was some arrangement attached to the front right suspension but no way enough of a meaty affair to support the whole car....or SWMBO has been eating too many wheetabix! in which case no excuse not to be on anchor duty next time out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Someone's posted a video of the crash on youtube, driver was OK but a spectator in the stands was injured by flying debris.

The Festival of Speed is fantastic. Been every year for the past few years although I missed this year's event due to family things. Although some drivers are going for a time on the hillclimb, most are on demo runs but thats not what it's about
It's about petrolheads seeing cars and drivers in action that they would never see anywhere else and some of those cars are near as dammit priceless so the fact that their owners allow them to run at all is a privelege. The other amazing thing about the Festival is the public access to the pits. I can't think of any other motorsport event where you can just wander around the pits and ask stupid questions of some quite famous faces and the noise/smell is better than any recreational chemical!
I've found that the best viewing area is the Pheasantry stand where you get a view of the main straight and the somewhat infamous Molecomb Corner which often catches out the unwary
Considering also the many interesting in field exhibits and stands and the usually amazing air display (anyone remember the incredible SAS Jumbo a couple of years back?), it's a fantastic day out

Yikes.........that looks a bit hairy, what a shame, beautifully detailed car looked at it for quite a while in the paddock. Hope none of the spectators were seriously hurt. Must have happened while we were milling about somewhere else.

Aston crash

Sorry Deleted User no insult intended to those pootling around the track, of course its all about the sights and sounds, we get a bit to used to full on racing at the TT here so didn't quite appreciate others do it for the fun. Still, bit irritating seeing some really capable cars being crucified by drivers that cant match the cars ability, one chap in an ex LeMans racer kept getting it bogged down and crunching gears, his baby so entitled I suppose....but painful to hear none the less.

as a regualar visitor to Jersey (coming over again next week for a couple of weeks), I have always kept an eye out for that number plate. I think the lowest I have spotted so far was J4 from memory
