Sailing Bachus home is a good watch. Proves a 36 foot Benteau is more than up to the job of sailing around the world. Not an encapsulated keel or skeg hung rudder in sight.

I've watched a lot of Patrick Laine's videos and even got an acknowledgement from some thanks I sent him. His Fastnet toast was funny though, never seen anyone in a DJ on their boat!
I watched a lot of Sailing Virgins for tips early on in my path although their method of addressing their target audience (under 30's) grated after a while.

Well you wasted more time commenting on a thread about You Tube when you do not even watch it. No wonder you got flamed.I have to be honest: spending any time watching other people sailing on YT is a complete waste of my life. Then again, I've had appalling value out of my modest flat screen TV as I barely manage to watch more than an hour or two a week on average!
Must dash, got things to make, letters to write, people to converse with!

I can see both sides of the argument...
I watch the ‘reality’ show/lifestyle channels occasionally and agree they can be an effective way of wasting hours of one's life (and no good for the soul in doing so). As for making the vids/getting paid - rather them than me. No doubt it’s loads of work and I’d hate to live my life always looking around for something to film or crouched over a laptop editing.
As for the more practical or instructional content - such as Mads/SailLife, Andy and Boatworks Today, Liz and Jamie’s refit of Esper - this has proven an invaluable source of insight, info, confidence, inspiration, etc.
I’m by no means impractical, but seeing others do it (sometimes professionals) and picking up on the intricacies, techniques, nuances, mistakes and all, has revolutionised by ‘boatwork’.
There’s no amount of beer tokens or good will that would have enabled me to watch over someone’s actual shoulder long enough to pick all of this up (and pick/choose what you need, re-watch, compare approaches, etc.).
This is where I think YT can come into its own. If I ever met Mads or Andy I’d buy them as many beers as they’d wish to consume! I guess I could head over to Patreon now... but, nah, got a Lofrans Tigres in pieces on the bench with the parts bill rapidly mounting instead!

Come off it!! 'Young' people are doctors, accountants, economists, IT experts, aircraft engineers, fund managers, artificial intelligence specialists, and even police officers these days and they'd struggle to learn all that from YouTube
. My daughter included, who runs what I guess is a moderately successful social media account for a bit of fun in addition to a full-time career, as do 99% of these video publishers.

It wasn't (and isn't) a waste of time engaging in a discussion on a YBW thread - its interactive in a way that following a channel isn't - and since when is using my own time to comment on any thread is 'flamable' misdemeanor ?
I frequently watch You Tube for all sorts of other reasons (and back in the day watched all of Roger Taylor and Dylan's offerings), which if you had been paying any attention you'd have seen that I clearly stated this in my second post on this thread.
I got flamed (as you put it) simply because there'll always be a level of intolerance of other points of view in any culture, and a propensity here for people to unleash their attack dogs at the drop of a hat... then for other strays to come barking in.
What I can't get over (as you put it) is the contrast in culture between YBW (Scuttlebutt in particular) and other hobby forums I spend time on where pre-internet standards of manners are the 100% norm (despite a total absence of moderators) and personal insults are unheard of.
I suppose I should just say wha'ever (other lazy platitudes are available) and count my blessings that I'm at least not being cancelled.

This thorough lack of understanding of the medium could be why you don't find it engaging. YouTube is, by design, extremely interactive. Aand for the record, you "got flamed" because of your passive-aggressive comments which suggested that reading is somehow superior to YouTube. It's not, it's just different. If you replace YouTube/screens in your posts with Books you might see the point, although I very muchg doubt it as you appear to have an extremely fixed viewpoint.

For what purpose? To recalibrate his value system to align with yours? He has often stated he really enjoys his projects and throws himself into it and his subscriber base and viewing rate demonstrate many people enjoy it too.
If your value system is the one he really should adopt then make a You Tube yourself about your passion and we will examine the statistics of subscribers and viewings.

No, it is not. It is misplaced anger on your part. You're SO chronically angry about other things in your life (that's how misplaced anger works) that you've:
(1) Failed to recognise that someone else expressing their own perfectly valid personal preferences about such a minor thing as watching or not watching amateurs on You Tube is not a reason for you to get so angry.
(2) Failed to accept my genuine offer of peace.
Please take a deep breath on this one. Please do not blast back at me that I'm being 'passive-aggressive' - I have every right to defend myself against someone else's misplaced anger (just as I have a right to express my own views on plastic boats or watching telly etc).
I'm not your boss or work-colleague who's giving you a hard time.
I'm not your wife or the guy she had an affair with.
I didn't cause Covid, nor am I responsible for Lockdown and the anxiety let alone real suffering it is causing.
I'm not your kid who is stressing you out with his/her adolescence stuff.

Babylon, perhaps in future you can just decline to read or post on subjects you have no interest in. This thread was quite happy and discussing YouTube content before you came along telling us all how YouTube isn't for you for no reason whatsoever. We're all quite comfortable with YouTube, and would be a lot happier if you didn't butt in with your irrelevant opinion. You're making this forum unpleasant and for some reason have started ranting about me when clearly it's yourself having some kind of issues. You're trying to appear to be the better person, but you're still being passive aggressive and I'm sure most of us can see through your act clear as day. Take a good look at what you're posting and why, and for the love of god please let the rest of us get back to discussing great YouTube channels that we actually enjoy - we don't care that you don't enjoy them.
On that note I'm going to say I enjoy Sailing Uma. Probably not too popular around here as it's a bubbly commercial american channel, but what Dan has done to that boat is nothing short of amazing. Their electric motor is also inspiring me and I hope to one day follow suit.

P,S I do not need acclamation or little tick boxes on a you tube channel , I am perfectly comfortable in my own skin and opinions to formulate them to be a gentleman , I can give you some tips . or maybe we can make a youtube video about it
