Good news

But not if your boat is six countries away. :(
Although, I'm pleased for you UK boaters. :)
Richard

If the UK insists on quarantining EU visitors flying in, other countries may reciprocate which, if quarantine has to be in a hotel will be an added expense.

I have mixed feelings about the UK travel situation, obviously pleased for those who should be able to get aboard to check and maintain boats but, not happy about what appears to be unlimited travel out of the cities without having a purpose except travelling to somewhere different for the sake of it..

On the other hand, we country dwellers can also go to the big cities again. Well, you can. I have to wait a bit longer, so I'll while away the time by rewatching "Shaun of the Dead" in preparation.

Good news!

I will be interested to see if harbours re open: many have strongly discouraged recreational boating!
it is incumbent on us all to be alert and safe and stay well within limits so as not to be accused of putting the rescue services at risk
Day sailing and even anchoring is quiet places should be well within the spirit of social distancing: if anyone anchors within 2 metres of me i will be having words.
What of visitors berths like Lymington? perhaps try to avoid rafting up, the pubs and restaurants are closed, wash aboard and try to minimise use of shore facilities if open?
I will be more than happy to anchor or pick up a buoy and stay aboard in splendid isolation!

I don't like big cities so not inclined to visit one even if allowed. Thankfully, Wales has the same attitude as Scotland so travel restrictions remain for us.

Yeah, you're stuffed. Buzz where we are is that there will be no international travel until September or October. we know several people with yachts in our marina that are planning for that. I can know visit the pontoons and do a security check for them so at least they dont have to pay out anything on guardinage. :)

Good news for England peeps to be able to get fresh air and a more distant horizon. Good for your health.

We can now also go local sailing, 12km limit. A lot of the sailing I had been doing before doombug was a few hours out and about doing a bit of coaching for friends. So looking forward to taking our own yacht out for a tootle around, anchor of the beach for a swim, yadda, yadda. So of course the weather may turn a bit pants over the next couple of days!

Hope you dudes enjoy yourselves getting back out! (y)

We all await permission from the Harbour Master, Queens Harbour Master in my case, to launch/go and play, not forgetting the next set of spring tides for some.

Even when the blanket restrictions have gone, I suspect that short term and short notice measures will continue for quite a while. It's going to be a long time before we can reliably plan international travel. I do a trip abroad in the DS every October - the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France and Belgium last year - and I have no great hopes of being able to do it this year. It would be awkward to be in Utrecht, say, when an outbreak there leads to a travel ban and/or quarantine.

Being a bit passive aggressive around the edges, I'll be playing Abba on repeat at full volume until one of us hangs himself
Brenda Lee worked wonders forme on full volume when a German boat anchored right over our anchor chain, then dropped back to nudge our pulpit yet refused to move, no social distancing bacjk then just inconsidarate dumkopfts. when he moved he went a long way, probably a Wagner fan

What is the RYA up to? The government has said you can travel unlimited distance to exercise, to work or to travel if necessary. Nothing much else. Since when is boating a form of exercise? Maybe in a little dinghy, but in a large yacht or mobo, not remotely is it exercise. This is the most bizarre interpretation of the rules, that would surely fall over in a court of law.

Very strange for what is otherwise such a stick-in-the-mud organisation.

Sailing is more exercise than sunbathing which is now permitted ;)

If it's not a form of exercise it's a form of travel, so all you have to do is sail somewhere nice, row twice round the boat in your dinghy and you're golden.

I did wonder why Spain and France were so strict with their lockdowns. Military patrolling the streets and all that. I'm beginning to understand the 'give an inch take a yard' saying.
