We have a 55' steel ketch with raised deck saloon. We are looking to replace the saloon windows. Our next stop is Turkey and we need to find someone to make up the frames in steel or aluminium. Any suggestions on the best places in Turkey for this? Somewhere with good carpenters would also be useful.

Agree with miki-b above.

However Netsel marina is 5 mins walk from town, not a 20min taxi/bus ride which is frustrating for all those one-off washers and things you always seem to need. More pricey certainly, though price is relative. Both are incredibly cheap by W Eu standards and Netsel is about the best marina I've ever seen. It is surrounded by workshops of all types. You can get anything, absolutely anything copied, made or mended in Marmaris. There are several woodwork shops in the marina.

Anker and Ginos are good but at the top end of the price range.
For a smaller, leaner company try Demir Marine, ilhan@demirmarine.com Ilhan is a thoroughly good guy. Also www.tecyachtsturkey.com. Brian there is a british boatbuilder recently set up in this business after running fleets of charter yachts as fleet engineer, top man.

The fabrication will be done in the warren of workshops in the back of town, and the guys you employ are most valuable for their knowledge of which workshop to go to for your particular job, pick the right one and the quality will be tops. You will need to supply either a pattern or comprehansive drawings and be very specific about exactly what you want, inc materials spec. There is no reason, language difficulties aside, why you should not commission these workshops yourself of course, but it will be easier to deal with one of the companies mentioned.

Good luck!
