Also surprising is the 5.1knots recorded by Tapio Lehtinen’s Finnish entry Asteria. She is covered in barnacle growth, which is sapping her speed at an ever-increasing rate. Last week, GGR HQ lifted the restriction of the NO-GO ZONE south of the 42°S Parallel in the South Pacific as a safety measure for Lehtinen to escape the worst of a Southern Ocean storm running up behind, and Tapio has been running before strong NE wind towards Cape Horn ever since.

Tapio appears to have left the exclusion zone and headed NNE towards Susie's boat. At some point during 9 Jan he was 'apparently' around 6 miles away, but seems to have turned back SW in recent hours.

Is Susie's transponder still transmitting a position? What d'you think is going on?

Tapio's heading off now, south east. He has, however, given a very good impression of having searched the likely vicinity of Susie's boat..... if still afloat.

Leader Jean-Luc, now over 200 miles north of the Azores and with a bit over 1000nm to run, is cracking along at 7.6 knots - on his weakened port tack - and has put in 168 nm in the past 24 hours ( to midnight ). His lead ( on DTF ) is about 200nm. There's an area of slack wind for both J-L and Mark Slats to avoid - then, later in the coming week, strong northerlies.

That should serve J-l's purpose IF he can keep his mast together......
