I am really hoping that there won't be any problem with us cruising on the boat while I wait for the certificate!

Strictly speaking you should not have the SSR until the boat is deregistered as you can't have it on two registers at the same time. However, doubt anybody is going to notice! When we bought our boat new the registration was not complete before we took it out, so we put the name of another boat on it and used the papers from that boat. PP saw it all twice and never questioned it!

I recently renewed the SSR in Rampage and that took about three or four working days from sending it off to having the new certificate delivered. If you're in UK and can get to Cardiff, phone the registers office and they can usually hand the certificate to you over the counter. Found them all very helpful.
Not having a registration document will cause problems as the PP will expect to see it if you are asked to bring your documents to the office to pay harbour dues.

I've already got the SSR. And I will also have the bill of sale.
I will find out in a few days if I will be harbourbound until the Deregistration papers and ?VAT documentation? are processed. At worst, I will have to spend more time than I want doing fettling and chandlery shopping in Gouvia, before I get sailing.

If you already have the SSR, I wouldn't worry about it. Remove any old ID numbers and get the SSR number stuck on there, and Bob's your uncle. When asked to pop into a PP office, just take along the SSR and associated documents.

Yep, I've had the old erg numbers removed and I have stickers with the new SSR. So, things are looking promising for an early escape from Gouvia!
Now I just have to pack 6 months worth of living (and most of the local chandlery stock) into a Ryanair baggage allowance!!!;) ;) ;)

Do you know what 'Eris' means in Greek?

'Eris (Greek Ἒρις, "Strife") is the goddess of strife and discord in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Nyx, but has no father. She is the opposite of Harmonia ...'
You still have time to change her name, unless you known what you're doing, of course.
Reminds me of the name chosen for their boat by two chemist friends who married: "Surface Tension"

And yes, if you already have an SSR, present that to the Port police.

Hi Cardo,

Thanks for the advice on the Depka. It sounds a lot more straightforward than the visits to the tax offices that I had envisaged.

I've bought an old charter GibSea 302. (I am not sure how this happened after six months of travelling around looking at Westerlys and Sadlers!)

This was to be my damp hermit's cave while I singlehanded around Greece for the rest of the year. As it happens, the spare cabin has been booked up for most of the year so, happily, it looks like I will be having a more sociable time than I thought.

I'm flying out with a pal to set up the boat next week so I am sure that I will be on the forum looking for help and advice
It would be great to meet up for a beer.

Ravi - do not try to pick up your DEKPA in Corfu Town. You will go to PP, fill in the forms, go across town to the tax office to by licence - you will queue - then back to pp, who will then tell you that they have no forms. You then go back to the tax office - queue- present your receipt plus the letter the PP will have done and get your money back.

So save your time and temper and just go to Sivota -a must go place - and do it all with PP in 15 minutes flat. Tell the PP there that you are not staying.. They do it by the book there and you will be charged 2 days and he will probably try and charge you a day for just stopping on the quay. But its the least hassle DEKPA in all Greece.

As for the crew list, just have a list of names with all passport numbers. 2 is plenty, don't worry about the rest, as they are passengers, and crew means crew (its big ship legislation).

Chris, thanks for that.

Earlier in the thread, someone pointed out that I don't need a Depka because the boat is < 10m.

The anchorages around Sivota are definitely on the itinerary as they will be a treat for the various curious friends and family coming out to Corfu, for the first few weeks, to see what madness has caused me to disappear off on a yacht.

Without the need for a Depka, I shouldn't have the complication of a crew list. I have many different people flying back and forth to sail with me (between periods of single handing) and it would need to be updated every few weeks.

Crew Lists - I have a crew list of just me. Never had any one else on as they are just passengers (don't tell SWMBO), so just prepare 1 list.

Sivota - wonderful anchorage - safe even in a northerly blast. BUT it is a weedy bottom so get it in - as the actress said to the bishop! If you have a CQR should might be considered impotent:disgust:

I don't know what the regulations are for private boats but for professional sailing yachts the Crew List must contain both Crew AND Passengers. We can get fined if anyone is on board who doesn't appear on the crew list. We have to submit a crew list to the PP every week but it only takes 5-10 minutes.

The same may not apply to private boats but I'd be wary about saying 'don't worry about putting people on' without checking the legal status - it isn't just big ship legislation; it applies to sailing yachts as well. Just because most people don't do it doesn't mean that it isn't the law ...
