Going down! The number of pages in MBM

I would say its adverts, they are fewer these days, yes due to the recession, companies cutting back, and the internet adverts for boats and brokerage, lets face it who sits reading through mags these days when looking for a boat?, just let your fingers do the looking, specific models etc no problem.

I bet IPC are actually making more money on the mags now as less printing costs, less ink, paper etc.

I must say I always read my mag, usually in the newsagents, then put it back and read another.......

Readership figures are also falling I should think. Well, paid for readership figures anyway!

They're certainly without my subscription now.

Although I too had a quick look whilst in WH Smiths' Library the other day and thought November's was quite a good issue compared to the recent past.

Still glad I switched to MBY though, much more to read.

September 150
October 130
November 118

A sign of the times I suppose......

Yup, MBM has been getting smaller for quite some time, not only in terms of number of pages but the mag is physically smaller than MBY now, the paper seems of lower quality and the copy itself is of lower quality and badly proof read. I guess it's a sign of these recessionary times but also a sign of how the internet is changing advertising. Who looks at classified boat ads in magazines these days when there is a far greater selection on the internet? Similarly, why do well known manufacturers bother advertising when their websites can portray their products so much better? I guess it can only be to try to get favourable tests of their boats published.
I still subscribe to MBM but it's largely because I'm grateful to them for arranging their cruises in company on which I learnt so much about boating

Never mind the width, feel the quality!

Especially the dodgy photo at the bottom of page 56 in this months MBM.

The next task is to figure out how to spend the vast royalties (zero).

Hi All,

The November issue is a bit thin, but I can assure you that this is because there are fewer ad pages, and not fewer editorial pages. Our editorial commitment is set out at the start of the year, so even if we wanted to run fewer editorial pages (which we don't), we couldn't.

Hope you're enjoying the issue.

Stewart

Maybe the post man

Chance would be a fine thing, still have not received mine!!

nicked it....

Joking aside MBM is published on the third Thursday of the month and as a subscriber you should receive it either on or slightly before this date.

If anyone has any problems reciving their copy please contact the editorial department (as Stewart has already said) or myself.

Yes we do have problems and 99% of the time there are very straight forward answers as to why you have not received it.

Many Thanks

Quality is better than quantity, providing fresh new quality contents is on offer. Advertising revenue has been goughed by the recession across all industries. Sometimes the recycled content between the groups mags is a pain. Never liked any boat test as they were always polite and never hard hitting, and one never felt you were getting the inside track and true grit of what a boat was really like. Sort of soft semi advertising pieces rather than a truthful "which" or "what" type of piece. Enjoy readers cruise reports, especially photo centric pieces with less text. The mags are coffee table publications so the no of pages shouldn't really effect subs/print sales revenue. Advertising is a different story.
