My Pegasus 700 rudder and skeg are off for a new bottom bush and I have stripped the rudder back to bare wood to find it needs some small repairs.

I need to graft in a new piece of iroko, what glue to use?

It also needs a little fairing, epoxy filler?

Finally, what paint should I use under the antifoul? I’ve previously used Primocon on it when touching up bare patches between seasons.

And whilst you are here, the skeg is some sort of cast bronze type material, again what paint for this? A couple of seasons back i stripped the antifoul and underlying paint off and the stuff under the antifoul was almost like some sort of a soft bitumen.

Thanks

Epoxy works fine with Iroko. Fair with an epoxy fairing compound - I use international Watertite, then Primocon (or Jotun Vynigard of you are doing a lot of underwater priming) and antifoul. Will work on the bronze, abut you might want to use Hammerite all metals primer before the Primocon.

Epoxy works well with iroko. if the piece to be grafted is on the blade of the rudder cut a slot in the existing and new iroko and insert a glued tongue and clamp tight.
When making the tongue best to have the grain running across the tongue rather than longitudinally.
